1. What’s your favorite thing about being a fashion designer?
While it can definitely be an extremely competitive and harsh industry to work in, it opens up an immense world of opportunities few other industries can match. There’s no limit to creativity or expansion in the fashion world so it ultimately gives you a sense of freedom and the constant rush and excitement of the unknown.
2. How did you become interested in fashion design?
I don’t think you become interested in fashion design or design in general, you are born with an artistic sense and you choose to pursue it or not. I was interested in all areas of design from a very young age and although I majored in architecture, fashion has always been part of my DNA as it allows greater self expression.
3. What’s your design philosophy?
I believe design is felt more than it is seen. It starts with feelings and moments then transfers into design compositions and aesthetics.
4. How do you handle criticism of your designs?
Other than art and design there are no industries where you are as exposed, you openly display your work for people to appreciate; anybody can have and express an opinion either educated or not. This is a boat you learn to navigate; it comes down to staying grounded in who you are as an artist, true to your vision and learn to adjust along the way selecting the right criticism so as to remain business oriented and in touch with the market.
5. How do you balance creativity with wearability in your designs?
Balancing creativity with wearability is actually part of my brand’s vision. I believe fashion and design should be part of the daily life not reserved for special occasions, so at the core AVENUE No.29 brings together novelty and creativity in a way that it doesn’t have to be loud or exaggerated to make an impact.
